August

August means respected and impressive, and so far this month seems to be measuring up beautifully.

Here is a piece of driftwood with a whimsical colour filter.
 It is so long since I have done a blog post I have almost forgotten how!

More driftwood, are we being watched?

August is the fifth of seven months with 31 days. Good thing too, I have lots going on this month.

First I have two paintings in the juried show "The Summer Salon 2019" at the Federation Gallery on Granville Island from August 5 to 19, 2019.

I have one painting in the "Small Artworks 2019" at the Federation Gallery from August 19 to Sept 1, 2019.

If you find yourself on Granville Island during these shows please pop by and have a look.

 "O Spirit of the Summertime!
 Bring back the roses to the dells;
 The swallow from her distant clime,
 The honey-bee from drowsy cells.
 Bring back the friendship of the sun;
 The gilded evenings, calm and late,
 When merry children homeward run,
 And peeping stars bid lovers wait.
 Bring back the singing; and the scent
 Of meadowlands at dewy prime;—
 Oh, bring again my heart's content,
 Thou Spirit of the Summertime!"

At the end of August I am in a show at Gallery 1710, home of the South Delta Artists Guild. Here is the poster for the show:

  1. Here are some new paintings:
  2. "Ska'ana at SGang Gwaay" got an award in the juried show "Oil and Water" at the South Delta Artists Guild. The painting also sold during the show. This is inspired by a photo I took while visiting Haida Gwaai last September.

  3. "Bare feet and Daisies"

  4. "Tugboats near Steveston"; I am very pleased to tell you that this painting was chosen for the Macdonald Realty Calendar for 2020.

  5. "August rushes by like desert rainfall,
    A flood of frenzied upheaval,
    Expected,
    But still catching me unprepared.
    Like a matchflame
    Bursting on the scene,
    Heat and haze of crimson sunsets.
    Like a dream
    Of moon and dark barely recalled,
    A moment,
    Shadows caught in a blink.
    Like a quick kiss;
    One wishes for more
    But it suddenly turns to leave,
    Dragging summer away."

  6. ……..ah but not quite yet...……..

  7. Happy Wednesday, with whimsy,
